The Democrats’ And Republicans’ Wars
|
| |
|
Whether or not you think a particular war is moral and good, the fact remains that the “wars” currently being waged by the government of the United States are illegal. Actual defense by a country when attacked is legal, but that only occurs once another country has actually attacked, and it must not be used as a loophole to excuse wider war that is not employed in actual defense.

I demand the immediate withdrawal of all troops, mercenary forces (euphemistically called "contractors") and employees of all United States corporations from Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia and The Philippines. I demand the end of all aerial and naval bombardment of those countries. I further demand that our troops be withdrawn from the other 123 nations where they are currently quartered in over 700 military bases at US taxpayer expense. It is time for the United States to join the community of nations, to cease its imperialist policy and apologize to those nations whose legitimate governments it has overthrown in the last hundred years. If we are a righteous nation we will realize that it is time for the doctrine of American Exceptionalism to come to an end. If we are indeed a righteous people we must demand this of our government. Any problems the United States currently faces in other parts of the world represent nothing more than blowback to the bellicose policies maintained by the two corporate owned political parties.

Four-year-old Iraqi child experiences the “shock and awe” sponsored by the US government and its allies. |

If elected I will file legislation that declares immediate drafting of all able-bodied and age-qualified children and grandchildren of all members of Congress any time that branch or the president plunge us into another war.
Besides forcing Congress to pay attention to its Constitutional responsibilities to declare or not declare war, this legislation would ring with the authenticity of responsible humble servants becoming part of the risk presently foisted on a few million, mostly low income, families.
IRAQ
Any 12-year-old with a modem could have told you in 1998 that all the weapons of mass destruction provided to Saddam Hussein by President Ronald Reagan in the 1980s had been destroyed or were accounted for. Any 12-year-old with a modem could have told you after 9/11, Iraq had absolutely nothing to do with the terrorist attack on the twin towers. Any 12-year-old with a modem also could have told you the only possible relationship that could have existed between Saddam and Osama was enmity.

The United States, Great Britain, and a few allies invaded Iraq simply in order to control its natural resources and its markets. Furthermore, impelled by Israeli interests here in the United States, the Bush administration, supported by the leaders of the Democratic Party who told the same lies, decided that an occupied Iraq was in the best interests of Israel.
Since the invasion the United States and its allies have killed in excess of 1,200,000 innocent men, women and children in Iraq and seriously injured untold millions of others. Not one family in Iraq has remained uninjured by the scurrilous invasion. Iraqi children who witnessed the body parts of their friends and relatives strewn about their neighborhoods will remember the United States forever in their nightmares which now feature screaming missiles from unseen terrorists known only as “Americans”.
Make no mistake about it both the Democratic Party and the Republican Party planned to invade Iraq long before September 11, 2001. Both the Democratic Party's think tank called the "Progressive Policy Institute" (PPI) and the Republican Party's think tank called the "Project for a New American Century" (PNAC) planned the invasion of Iraq in the 1990s. The reason that President Clinton killed a million Iraqi civilians, which included 500,000 Iraqi children, was a prelude to the planned invasion under a supposed president Al Gore. President Bush seized upon the events of September 11 and used them as an excuse to invade when regime change was the real motive.
AFGHANISTAN
The reasons for invading Iraq were quite different than the reasons for invading Afghanistan. The invasion of Iraq was staged primarily to maintain US/Israeli hegemony in the Middle East. No, it was not primarily about oil. Seizing Iraq's oil just made the enterprise much more profitable. Part of the foreign policy of the United States is, and has been for decades, the neutralization of Iraq, Iran, Syria and Hezbollah in Lebanon. These forces stand in the way of Israel's complete dominance in the Middle East. Bear in mind that Israel is loaded to the gunwales with nukes but the US will not permit any other nation in the Middle East to be comparably armed.
Neither of the two major political parties will condemn Israel for its brutal treatment of Palestinians because both parties are major recipients of Jewish money funneled to them through AIPAC (American Israeli Public Affairs Committee).
Like Iraq, Afghanistan had absolutely nothing to do with the attack of September 11, 2001. Afghanistan however was the natural place to lay a pipeline shipping natural gas out of the newly formed republics that were once part of the Soviet Union. Afghanistan once had a secular government where women were equal and which promised to bring Afghanistan into the modern era. This, however, was a communist government and the United States was simply not going to tolerate a government that was actually helping the Afghani people. The US began to support the mujahedin which was fighting against the Soviet Union in its efforts to stabilize the government in Kabul. Ultimately, the Taliban, aided by the United States, overthrew the communist government and set up a brutal regime.

The United States thought that it now had Afghanistan in its pocket but instead of awarding the pipeline project to the US-based UNOCAL oil company, the Taliban awarded the project to an Argentinian firm. Clearly the United States would now have to find a reason to invade Afghanistan. The attack on the Pentagon and the trade towers (symbols of the military-industrial complex) was used as a pretext to invade Afghanistan. One more time: Afghanistan had nothing to do with the attack of 9/11 and has never presented a threat to the United States. The Taliban, while a nasty group of folks, never presented a threat to the United States and became a threat to their own people only because the United States put them in power.
When the right wing terrorist, Timothy McVeigh, bombed the federal building in Oklahoma City, the United States did not bomb or invade his home state of New York. Instead the police forces of our nation were marshaled and McVeigh was brought to justice. After the attack on the symbols of the Military-Industrial Complex on September 11 the entire world was ready to help us capture the criminals who planned this event. That was the last thing our government officials in the Republican and Democratic parties wanted. They had decided to use the shock of September 11 to bamboozle the people of the United States into believing that it was quite all right to murder over a million people in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia and any other nation where war was in the best interest of the corporations which finance elections of the two major political parties.
Although President Obama has told us that he has withdrawn US troops from Iraq that's not exactly, not exactly, not exactly the truth! First of all he has left 50,000 troops right on the border stationed in Kuwait! Kind of like withdrawing troops from New York to Jersey City! Moreover United States has built the largest embassy in the entire world in Baghdad. It is larger than the entire Vatican City. Most embassies are staffed with two or three dozen people. This one will be staffed with over 1700 people! Yes, that's right; this is a major headquarters for US intelligence operations. In point of fact Iraq has been garrisoned its national resources have been appropriated by US oil companies and the modern, secular nation has been thrown into the Stone Age.
But it's not just these 1700 people to be left behind; there will also be at least 5000 professional assassins otherwise known as "contractors" or more politely "mercenaries".
Along with all these ground forces, the State Department has slowly been building an aviation capability in Iraq in anticipation of the official drawdown of US troops. To that end they have procured several dozen helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft.
There will be no effort to pay reparations to the people of Iraq for the million civilians killed (500,000 children) by bombs and sanctions under President Clinton nor the million killed during the Bush-Obama regime. Iraq has been destroyed; its natural resources handed over to US oil corporations and 6,000 years of precious antiquities lost forever. All of this in order to maintain a US-Israeli hegemony in the Middle East.

Sadly the United States under President Obama has also:
- Waged war on Libya without congressional approval
- Started a covert, drone war in Yemen
- Escalated the proxy war in Somalia
- Escalated the CIA drone war in Pakistan
- Secretly deployed US special forces to 75 countries
-Said that the US is in 'lockstep' with Israel on Iran (read).
