GREEN PARTY OF PENNSYLVANIANOMINATES
 JOHN MURPHY FOR CONGRESS

CHESTER COUNTY, PA –The Green Party of Pennsylvania (GPPA) nominated John Murphy as its candidate for House of Representatives in the 16th Congressional District of Pennsylvania at its nominating convention in Harrisburg on February 3.  Murphy ran for Congress in 2006 as an independent with the endorsement of two county level Green Parties, two county level Libertarian Parties, The Reform Party of Pennsylvania and The New American Independent Party of Pennsylvania.

Murphy told the GPUS state committee that his message would focus on delivering secure, sustainable jobs to the people of the 16th District and the nation, eliminating the federal income tax for Americans making less than $100,000 a year, supporting universal single-payer health care, demanding the immediate return of our troops from Iraq and Afghanistan and the other 127 nations where they are stationed, cutting the Pentagon budget in half thereby beginning to pay down our nearly 10 trillion dollar national debt.

Murphy told the committee members "both the Democrat and Republican parties are owned and operated by the same 1500 corporations and whether you are a good conservative or a good liberal your representatives in Congress look to their corporate paymasters as their constituents rather than the voters."  Murphy concluded by saying "I will offer the voters in the 16th District the ability to take back the Congress from corporate America.  I will take no corporate money nor any money from special interest groups".

Murphy also calls for the immediate repeal of The USA Patriot Act, The Military Commissions Act and The Protect America Act which he says "have destroyed the civil liberties of American citizens and would have Thomas Jefferson and James Madison spinning in their graves".

CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATE JOHN MURPHY SAYS PRESS AND PUNDITS GOT IT WRONG WITH SPITZER

CHESTER COUNTY, PA – "The same corporate owned media" said Independent Populist congressional candidate John Murphy, "which acted as President Bush’s cheerleader as we rushed headlong into an illegal,  immoral war for oil in Iraq once again has come down on the side of Wall Street and against the needs and desires of the American people".

"While the press and pundits prostitute themselves to the prurient interests of the public" said Murphy, "one of the best corporate crime fighters is sacrificed on the altar of The USA Patriot Act."  According to Murphy the press is reporting the wrong story but as they are only interested in titillating the public, they have left behind the most critical aspect of the story.  Governor Spitzer’s was reported to the government by a Wall Street bank because his transactions were "suspicious".  Under the USA Patriot Act, the first of three pieces of legislation which have destroyed the Bill of Rights; that was all the evidence needed by the FBI and the IRS to investigate him.  "Not everyone gets sent to Guantánamo" continued Murphy "some are simply rooted out by the military industrial complex to which they are a threat".

According to John Murphy, title III of the USA Patriot Act allows the FBI to investigate financial transactions which might be aimed at financing terrorism.  "Spitzer was a pain in the neck to the corporate criminals on Wall Street" said Murphy, "and they used the civil-liberty-destroying Patriot Act to get him.  This man's private activities would have never become public had our Bill of Rights not been gutted by the Bush administration supported by the spineless Democrats" concluded Mr. Murphy.

Because of this "sin" Spitzer resigned in embarrassment but the President of the United States continues disgracing his office on a daily basis in repeated violations of the Constitution, federal laws against torture, spying on Americans without judicial approval and international treaties.  Instead of resigning in shame, President Bush told a Republican fund-raising audience that he would leave office "with his head held high".

Murphy added, "Ralph Nader was correct last week in West Chester when he said that there indeed was a difference between the Democrat and Republican parties".  The Republican Party was willing to impeach a president because he lied under oath about sex but the Democrat Party is unwilling to impeach a president who has violated so many laws that the Center for Constitutional Rights has clustered them into five major impeachable groups of "High Crimes and Misdemeanors".

"President Bush is the most impeachable president in our history" continued John Murphy, "but the Democrat Congress has said "impeachment is off the table".  The press and the pundits instead demand the resignation of Eliot Spitzer who rose to his position by prosecuting corporate criminals.
