HOWARD ZINN ENDORSES JOHN MURPHY FOR CONGRESS

NATION’S FOREMOST HISTORIAN SAYS AMERICANS ACROSS THE NATION SHOULD BACK MURPHY’S INDEPENDENT RUN FOR CONGRESS

EAST FALLOWFIELD, PA – The John Murphy for Congress Campaign is exceedingly happy to announce that Howard Zinn, Professor Emeritus in the Political Science Department at Boston University has endorsed John Murphy for House of Representatives.

Professor Zinn who is a World War II veteran and received the Air Medal and battle stars for service in the US Army Air Forces is considered to be the foremost American Historian. He is the author of some 20 books but is most often cited for his seminal work "A People’s History of the United States" which has altered the way many teach history. The book has sold over a million and a half copies. "Most history textbooks give us the whitewashed version of the triumph of the American elite" said John Murphy. "Professor’s Zinn’s work is the only volume to tell America's story from the point of view of -- and in the words of -- America's women, factory workers, African Americans, Native Americans, working poor, and immigrant laborers".

Howard Zinn has been active in social and political affairs throughout his life, and is an authority on the history of American civil disobedience. He participated with the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee during the civil-rights movement of the 1960s and 1970s. He was a prominent protester against American aggression in Vietnam and he helped secure the release of the first three American prisoners-of-war.

Professor Zinn wrote of John Murphy “I am pleased to endorse John Murphy in his campaign for House of Representatives in Pennsylvania’s sixteenth district. I do this not only because he condemns the continued occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan but because he opposes the very idea of imperialist wars, and so-called 'preemptive wars'. He rejects unequivocally the doctrine of American exceptionalism, whereby the U.S. exempts itself from the rules it demands for every other nation. I urge not only the people in Pennsylvania to give their support to John Murphy but Americans across the nation to support his campaign.”

According to John Murphy, "one of my favorite quotations from Professor Zinn is: ‘We need to decide that we will not go to war, whatever reason is conjured up by the politicians or the media, because war in our time is always indiscriminate, a war against innocents, a war against children’".

John Murphy concluded, "with Howard Zinn's endorsement, my congressional campaign has been victorious. Even if I am not elected, my agenda will ultimately be the winner. My campaign is all about freeing the American people from a corporate controlled government and creating social and economic justice. Howard Zinn's endorsement has guaranteed victory for my campaign".

 Thank you, John Murphy
